The Batawa Ski Racing Club’s 2019 U8 team swept the podium as they hosted Brimacomb Ski Club in their first race of the season Saturday.
A brisk sunny race day greeted the skiers as they competed on a tight and challenging giant slalom style course. The majority of the team are rookies but they all enjoyed their first race of the season.
Highlight results for the girls were Linnea Himberg-Larsen taking first place in her first race and Lily Langlois getting a solid second place to start the season. For the U8 boys, Batawa swept the top three positions in a field of 14 racers, with Majka Popiel taking first place. Avery Forrest was second in his first race, and Milo Del Grosso skied smoothly to third with only 1.01 seconds separating the three of them.
This weekend the team travels to Brimacomb for another race between to the two ski clubs.
The Batawa U10 ski team saw some great conditions on Saturday, as they hosted Brimacombe for an inner club race.
For the girls, Maya Bianchi placed first with Kaelin Hearn coming in second. For the boys, Elio De Luca placed second with Killian Brown finshed third.
The U16 Southern Ontario Divsion Cup team competed on a particularly fast and challenging slalom course at Caledon Ski Club on Sunday.
Emma Sabine-Craig finished 21st in a field of 80 racers and Nikolas MacPherson and Zachary Selby both finished in the top half of their field.
Ten Batawa racers travelled to Mansfield Ski Club to participate in the U19 SOD Slalom and Erika Lamb Snowflake Series Giant Slalom races. A crisp, sunny day meant the snow held up well for 90 racers to complete four runs each.
Top 10 honours went to Reena Liu — SL fifth, GS fourth, Overall fourth; Annissa Bray— SL 10th, Overall eighth; Chloe O’Boyle-Kelly — GS 10th; Isaac Hollinger — SL fourth, GS eighth, Overall fourth.
Hannah O’Boyle-Kelly, Lydia Schmoll, Paddy Brady, Caleb Faubert-Roy, Bradley Bonner and Jaxon Starbuck all proudly represented Batawa.
